Abstract
PIPO, a readily prepared polymer immobilised TEMPO, is an efficient recycla ble heterogeneous catalyst for the chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent- and bro mide-free bleach oxidation of a variety of alcohols. Under these environmen tally friendly conditions, PIPO is superior to homogeneous TEMPO and the pr eviously described MCM-41 and silica supported TEMPO catalysts. In addition , in combination with CuCl, PIPO is also able to catalyse the aerobic oxida tion of benzyl alcohol.
