An optical filter that has an ideal response for removing aliasing noi
se from a sampled imaging system is described. The all-phase filter us
es complementary Golay codes to achieve an optimum low-pass transfer f
unction with no sidelobes. A computer model shows that the optical sys
tem has the expected performance in the ideal case, but degrades somew
hat with wavelength variations and image aberrations. An experimental
demonstration of the filter shows the optical transfer function perfor
mance and the response to imagery with a sampled detector. (C) 1997 Op
