A new genus and species of xenophorid gastropod, Acanthoxenophora sinuosa,
is based upon well preserved specimens from the upper Maastrichtian deposit
s of the Mexcala Formation in Guerrero State, Mexico. The presence of attac
hment scars from foreign objects on the first three whorls and clusters of
spines on the last whorls of the teleoconch distinguish this taxon from all
other Late Cretaceous xenophorids. This occurrence represents the southern
most report of Maastrichtian xenophorids in North America.
