Abstract
A scenario for the productin of a current sheet above an active region duri ng the emergence of new magnetic flux is considered. The formation of a cur rent sheet is demonstrated via a numerical solution of a system of MHD equa tions with dissipative terms. The flare energy is stored in the magnetic fi eld of the current sheet. The decay of the current sheet can account for a number of solar-flare phenomena, including the observed divergence of H-alp ha ribbons. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".
