Hyperfunctions in R-n are intuitively considered as sums of boundary values
of holomorphic functions defined in infinitesimal wedges' in C-n. Orthonor
mal multiwavelets, which are a generalization of orthonormal single wavelet
s, generate a multiresolution analysis by means of several scaling function
s. Microlocal analysis is briefly reviewed and a multiwavelet system adapte
d to microlocal filtering is proposed. A rough estimate of the microlocal c
ontent of functions or signals is obtained from their multiwavelet expansio
ns. A fast algorithm for multiwavelet microlocal filtering is presented and
several numerical examples are considered. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
