A design method of universal adaptive stabilizers for processes with unknow
n degrees and unknown signs of high-frequency gains, and with uncertain rel
ative degrees r, r + 1 or r + a (r epsilon N), is presented, This is an ext
ension of Morse's universal stabilizers where the relative degrees are unce
rtain hut known to be one or two. It is shown that single adaptive control
schemes,with sis tuning parameters can deal with enlarged uncertainties of
relative degrees.
