S. Bertin et D. Chauvaud, Retinal detachment: computer reconstruction of visual perception during the first month after surgery, J FR OPHTAL, 23(10), 2000, pp. 1026-1028
Visual function during the first month following ab externo surgery for ret
inal detachment with raised macula has been unadequately investigated. We p
resent through pictures the patient's perception of his visual function alt
er surgical intervention consisting of cryotherapy, draining, scleral buckl
ing, and gas. The patient used image processing software to modify the pict
ures seen by the nonoperated eye in order to reproduce his visual perceptio
n with the operated eye. Results show the relation between visual perceptio
n and clinical examination. When the surgical procedure is undergone early,
visual recovery only requires a few days and color vision returns quickly.
Hyalitis and gas perception prevails at first, then visual acuity increase
s progressively and efficiently.
