Abstract
Discotic and dendritic compounds consisting of sitlbenoid building blocks s how CC bond formations on irradiation. These processes can lead in a highly regio- and stereoselective way to cyclophanes or in a statistical mode to crosslinked systems. Whereas in the crystalline state the topochemical cont rol is valid, the reactions in solution are determined by the aggregation. In liquid crystalline phases aggregation and columnar dynamics are importan t.
