Abstract
The potential of substituted 2'-hydroxychalcones 1 as new efficient UV-A-ab sorbers for sunscreens has been investigated. A three step synthesis starti ng from the corresponding phenyl acetates led to the desired products. Abso rption maxima, extinction coefficients and photo stabilities were determine d by UV measurements and photochemical decomposition studies.
