The hydrogen degradation of some non-ferrous metals and alloys, and its dep
endence on microstructure and environment is reviewed. The hydrogen-enhance
d localised plasticity, formation and decomposition of brittle hydrides, an
d appearance of hydrogen and methane bubbles are discussed as possible mech
anisms of hydrogen embrittlement. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights
