The paper presents a methodology enabling the accurate representation of ir
on losses in magnetic cores for a frequency range up to 10 kHz. The classic
al subdivision of iron losses into hysteresis and eddy current phenomena ha
s been adopted. Hysteresis losses are calculated by means of a conveniently
modified Preisach-Neel model representation while iron losses are taken in
to account through a Foster II equivalent circuit representation of the lam
ination. A final equivalent circuit of sufficient accuracy, combining both
hysteresis and eddy current losses contributions is proposed. The model val
idity has been checked using an Epstein experimental set-up. (C) 2001 Publi
