Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance and vibrational spectroscopic studie
s are reported for bis(pentacarbonylmanganese)diphenyltin(IV) and bis(penta
carbonylmanganese)diphenyllead(IV). The solid-state, CP-MASI Sn-119 and Pb-
207 NMR spectra of these complexes each reveal a single asymmetric undecet
due to the (1)J(119)Sn-Mn-55 and (207)pb-Mn-55 spin-spin couplings and seco
nd-order quadrupole-dipole effects. The (1)J(Sn-Mn) and (1)J(pb,-Mn) values
are 139 +/- 1 and 228 +/- 1 Hz, respectively. The Sn-119 and Pb-207 chemic
al shift anisotropies have been determined. The crystal structure of the ti
