An unidentified mesophase D-x of bis(octakisdodecyloxyphthalocyaninato)lute
tium(III) reported by us in 1997 was reinvestigated by temperature-dependen
t X-ray diffraction and temperature-dependent electronic spectra of the thi
n film. The D-x phase was thus established as a novel type of D-ro (P2(1)/a
) mesophase in which two different stacking distances h(t) and h(f) exist.
It was also revealed that the step-up increase of electroconductivity is at
tributable to the step-up enlargement of pi-pi overlap of Pc macrocycles ac
cording to the phase transitions crystal --> D-ro (P2(1)/a) --> D-bo. This
is strongly related to delocalization of the radical electron. Copyright (C
