We propose a new method for producing ice by winter air in cold regions, an
d perform tests with an apparatus assembled as trial. The apparatus consist
s of two parts, a heat exchanger and an ice making part, to get high therma
l efficiency.
The tests yield the following results:
1) The production rate of ice is estimated to be 2 similar to 19 kg.h(-1) f
rom the heat intake ability of the ice maker, which was obtained by the tes
ts carried out at refrigerant (25 wt% calcium chloride) temperatures of -4.
4 similar to -14.5 degreesC at the inlet of the ice maker and at refrigeran
t flow rates of 1.0 similar to5.6 l.min(-1).
2) The production rate of ice is 3.5 similar to6.8 kg.h(-1) in the proof te
sts, which were carried out at outdoor temperatures of -5 similar to -10 de
greesC (refrigerant temperatures of -3 similar to -8 degreesC at the inlet
of the ice maker) and refrigerant flow rates of 1.3 similar to5.2 l.min(-1)
.
