H. Elattari et al., DIALLEL ANALYSIS OF PARTIAL RESISTANCE TO AN IRANIAN STRAIN OF BACTERIAL LEAF STREAK (XANTHOMONAS-CAMPESTRIS PV CEREALIS) IN WHEAT, Plant Pathology, 45(6), 1996, pp. 1134-1138
Six wheat genotypes with wide genetic variability for resistance to ba
cterial leaf streak were crossed in diallel fashion to determine the i
nheritance of resistance to this disease. Parr nt:il genotypes and the
ir F1 hybrids were inoculated at the second leaf stage With an Iranian
isolate of Xanthomanas campestris pv. cerealis. Two experiments were
undertaken in a controlled environment chamber. Results showed that th
e genotypes IBPT66, IBPT84 and IBPT34 had a high level of partial resi
stance to the disease. General and specific combining abilities presen
ted several significant positive or negative values, showing the impor
tance of both additive and dominant genetic control for partial resist
ance to this bacterial disease. The resistant line IBPT66 could be a g
ood donor of partial resistance to bacterial leaf streak in wheat.
