Vizella metrosideri sp, nov. is described and illustrated from Metrosideros
excelsa. It forms macroscopically indistinct colonies either within or ben
eath the cuticle on the upper surface of living leaves. The colonies compri
se fruiting bodies of the teleomorph and anamorph, together with a sparse n
etwork of flattened, ribbon-like hyphae with thickened, dark septa and alte
rnating dark and light cells. Such hyphae are characteristic of the genus.
The distinction between Vizella and Entopeltis is discussed.
