Potato Y potyvirus us (PVY) is an economically important viral pathogen of
potato. PVY infection can cause up to 80 % yield loss in potato production.
It occurs in all potato-growing countries.
In this study a summary is given of methods of controlling PVY, with specia
l regard to the importance of virus-free propagation materials (thermothera
py, chemotherapy, meristem growing) and of resistance, the possibilities of
protection (protection against vectors, agrotechnical methods), therapy, a
nd the results of these methods.
