Sc. Kaste et al., Complications of limb-sparing procedures using endoprosthetic replacementsabout the knee for pediatric skeletal sarcomas, PEDIAT RAD, 31(2), 2001, pp. 62-71
Ninety-five percent of bone tumors are now managed with limb-sparing techni
ques. For pediatric patients with bone cancer, such limb reconstruction tec
hniques often involve the placement of large endoprosthetic devices with th
e goal of improving survivors' quality of life. Nevertheless, few radiologi
c publications discuss the use of these techniques in children and adolesce
nts. This pictorial essay describes the imaging characteristics of the comp
lications associated with endoprosthetic devices and discusses the conditio
ns that may simulate them.
