GREY-BOX IDENTIFICATION OF A CONTINUOUS DIGESTER - A DISTRIBUTED-PARAMETER PROCESS

The grey-box modelling technique is employed here for the identificati on of a model of a continuous digester. A physically based model is co mplemented with empirical data to produce a model with quantitative pr ediction capabilities. The method of orthogonal collocation is utilize d to reduce this infinite-dimensional system into a finite-dimensional state-space approximation. A grey-box identification session, includi ng different sources for process disturbances, shows that new insight into the process behavior can be gained by this approach.
