Abstract
Global solar radiation has been estimated by using the theoretical mod els found in literature. Along with these correlations, we have also m odified the Angstrom correlation using the measured radiation and the bright sunshine hour data for Bangladesh and for the province of UP (I ndia) separately. The predicted results are compared with the measured values. From the analysis, it is seen that the modified correlations are best fitted to the experimental observations. Therefore, the globa l solar irradiance on horizontal surface can be estimated by the new m odified correlations with constant a = 0.370 and b = 0.330 and the con stants a = 0.2982 and b = 0.4112 with a high degree of accuracy in eve ry location in Bangladesh and UP respectively.
