Abstract
We have constructed a Lorenz-life model for Marangoni convection with finit e wave number in large aspect ratio situations. Within the model, then is e xchange of stabilities at the onset of convection and beyond the onset ther e is onset of oscillations due to the presence of surface fluctuations. The oscillations become chaotic as the Marangoni number is increased.
