Isothermal current decay measurements have been performed on red mercu
ric iodide single crystals in order to exploit the simplicity of the m
ethod in determining the trap depths, trap densities and capture cross
-sections of different trapping levels which may be present in the pla
telet-shaped single crystals of red mercuric iodide grown by polymer c
ontrolled growth (PCG) technique. Some of the important limitations of
this method have also been outlined.
