Abstract
We report on the determination of the anisotropical complex optical constan ts of highly stretch-oriented poly(p-phenylene-vinylene) (PPV) from Kramers -Kronig transformation of near-normal incidence absolute reflectivity and i nversion of reflectance and transmittance measurements. These data are disc ussed and compared with those obtained from quantum chemical calculations e xtended to include the electronic correlation in an 11-ring PPV oligomer. O n the basis of this comparison a new assignment of the optical transitions in PPV is proposed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
