The wavelet transform is the most recent technique for processing signals w
ith time-varying spectra. The frequency-to-bandwidth ratio of wavelet is an
important factor for getting success in the practical applications of the
technique. In this paper, a theoretical model is presented to estimate the
optimal frequency-to-bandwidth of the Gaussian wavelet in ultrasonic non-de
structive evaluation. Then the experimental verification is performed, and
the experimental results confirm the availability of the theoretical model.
