Ms. Ansari et al., Mycotic abdominal aortic aneurysm: A fatal sequel to concomitant prostaticand renal aspergillosis - Case report and review of the literature, UROL INTERN, 66(1), 2001, pp. 36-37
We report the first case of aspergillus mycotic aneurysm as a sequel to con
comitant prostatic and renal aspergillosis. The patient had undergone left
nephrectomy and transurethral resection of prostate for aspergillus infecti
on one year ago. He again presented with LUTS and backache and clinical exa
mination showed visible pulsations in the epigastrium. CT-scan abdomen show
ed a pseudoaneurysm of the abdominal aorta. The aneurysm was repaired in si
tu with homografting and omental wrap. However, the patient succumbed to se
pticemia on the tenth postoperative day. Adjunctive surgery is usual ly ess
ential as medical management alone has been unsatisfactory. It is imperativ
e that these cases should be followed closely to detect the disease recurre
nce and complications at the earliest. Copyright (C) 2001 S. Karger AG, Bas
