Excited states of neutron-rich Ar, Cl, S and P isotopes have been produced
via fragmentation of a Ca-48 beam at the GANIL, and studied by using segmen
ted clover Ge and BaF2 gamma -ray detectors in addition to the SPEG. In the
present contribution the in-beam gamma -spectroscopic results obtained on
S-40,S-42,S-44 and Ar-46 are discussed and compared with the results of a r
ecent large-scale shell model calculation. Evidence has been deduced on coe
xistence of spherical and deformed shapes in the S-44 nucleus.
