Abstract
Electron collision excitation strengths for transitions between fine-struct ure levels of the 3s(2)3p(5), 3s3p(6), 3s(2)3p(4)3d, 3s3p(5)3d, and 3s(2)3p (4)4s configurations in Fe X are calculated using semirelativistic R-matrix approach which takes into account parts of the Breit-Pauli Hamiltonian. We included 49 fine-structure levels in our scattering calculation. These lev els are represented by configuration-interaction wave functions. Rydberg se ries of resonances converging to the excited state thresholds are explicitl y included in the calculation. Present results of collision strength are co mpared with available distorted wave calculations. Some differences are not ed. Effective collision strengths are evaluated by averaging the electron c ollision strengths over a Maxwellian distribution of electron energies. Res ults are listed over a wide temperature range (3 x 10(4)-6 x 10(6) K) appli cable to many astrophysical plasmas.
