Abstract
The molecular-field method has been used to study a two-dimensional or dered polymeric system with dipole interactions. Expressions are obtai ned in the low- and high-temperature approximations for the free energ y of a chain made from rigid elements in a self-consistent mean field of dipole type. The transition of the chain from an isotropic to an or dered state in the single-chain approximation is a second-order phase transition. The dependence of the transition parameters on the rigidit y of the chain has been studied. (C) 1997 The Optical Society of Ameri ca.
