M. Trojanowicz et A. Miernik, Bilayer lipid membrane glucose biosensors with improved stability and sensitivity, ELECTR ACT, 46(7), 2001, pp. 1053-1061
Bilayer lipid membranes (BLMs) can be successfully formed on polymers elect
rodeposited on a solid metallic support. Avidin-biotin interactions were em
ployed for immobilisation of the enzyme on the surface of the BLM. Improved
long-term stability and better selectivity towards certain interfering ele
ctroactive species were observed for a BLM glucose biosensor based on gluco
se oxidase immobilised on a platinum support modified with any of several p
olymers. However, the best results were obtained for the mediated system in
which the BLM was formed on a Pt support covered with a layer of evaporate
d Nafion with incorporated ferrocene. The stable and sensitive response wit
h significant elimination of the influence of electroactive interferences o
n the signal magnitude should allow a practical application of such miniatu
rised biosensors. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
