Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) grafted and ungrafted nitrile rubbers (NBR) wer
e studied by means of C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), d
istortionless enhancement by polarisation transfer technique and H-1-NMR. T
he composition of the NBR rubber and the GMA grafting degree were determine
d by quantitative H-1-NMR. Different approaches are discussed to overcome t
he encountered difficulties that characteristic reference signals, required
for the internal standardization, are affected by the GMA grafting. The GM
A grafting degree in the NBR rubber was 5.0 wt.%. The epoxide rings did not
open during the grafting of GMA. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. AII rights
