The two phosphine ligands, dppm and PPh3, readily react with [Pt(9S3)Cl-2]
to form heteroleptic thioether-phosphine complexes with elongated square py
ramidal structures [S2P2 + S-1] in the solid stare. Their solution NMR data
are also similar, and both exhibit fluxional 9S3 ligands. The enhanced bas
icity and chelate ring strain of the dppm ligand over PPh3 are observed str
ucturally, electrochemically, and spectroscopically, resulting in character
istic chemical shift changes in the P-31 and Pt-195 NMR spectra of the two
complexes.
