Abstract
Slow mixing of solutions of La(AsF6)(3) in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride (aHF ) and Cs2PdF6 in aHF at room temperature gives a pure yellow compound La-2( PdF6)(3) insoluble in aHF The amorphous obtained La-2(PdF6)(3) is very sens itive to moisture and once dry and isolated it solvolyses in contact with f resh aHF It represents a new type of compound in the systems rare earth (Ln ) trifluorides/transition metal (M) tetrafluorides (LnF(3):MF4 = 2:3). infr ared (615 cm(-1)) and Raman data (558, 276 and 212 cm(-1)) show the presenc e of PdF62- anions in La-2(PdF6)(3). K2PdF6, Cs2PdF6, and Pd2F6 were synthe sized for comparison and investigated by vibrational spectroscopy. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V, All rights reserved.
