The study found significant differences in educational and occupationa l aspirations of New 2ealand-born Chinese students and their European counterparts. These aspirations were consistent with parental expectat ions. Although the parental pressure motivated Chinese students to suc ceed, it appeared to have a negative effect on their perception of the ir abilities.
