Rcy. Chung et al., A COMPARISON OF ACHIEVEMENT AND ASPIRATIONS OF NEW-ZEALAND CHINESE AND EUROPEAN STUDENTS, Journal of cross-cultural psychology, 28(4), 1997, pp. 481-489
The study found significant differences in educational and occupationa
l aspirations of New 2ealand-born Chinese students and their European
counterparts. These aspirations were consistent with parental expectat
ions. Although the parental pressure motivated Chinese students to suc
ceed, it appeared to have a negative effect on their perception of the
ir abilities.
