Orbital ordering in V2O3 appears due to the orbital degeneracy of the doubl
y degenerate ground state of the V3+ ions and causes an antiferromagnetic p
hase transition in this compound. Assuming a crystal field of symmetry lowe
r than cubic and spin-orbit coupling, the magnetic properties of this compo
und have been studied. Correlated effective-field theory is used to study t
he magnetic properties of the insulating phase. The magnetic structure obse
rved at low temperature is also incorporated in the calculation.
