Elastic properties of YBa2Cu3O7-delta single crystals and thin epitaxial fi
lms were measured at room temperature by means of Brillouin scattering. The
elastic stiffnesses, which reflect a pseudo-tetragonal symmetry of the ela
stic properties, were determined for both kinds of samples. For the single
crystals, only small differences from the previously published data were fo
und. For the thin films, a significant hardening of the shear stiffness C-5
5 (15%) was observed, in contrast with the softening usually obtained for m
any compounds.
