Abstract
Unusual chemoselective addition of diisopropylzinc to the 2-position of 2,2 '-bipyridine-5,5'-dicarbonyl compounds affords the adducts with a quaternar y carbon, and autoxidation of the adducts reconverts them into the initial compounds with carbon-carbon bond cleavage.
