The mutant journal: how adaptations to online forces are forcing STM journals to mutate

Journals treat information in a peculiar manner. Now, online publishing is forcing rapid mutation of the journal's inherently volatile genetic code. T his paper proposes a sequence of mutation, and discusses the evolutionary f orces at work and how publishers can themselves adapt when faced with mutan t journals.
