A simple method for fabricating tunable nonlinearly chirped fiber gratings
is demonstrated experimentally. A nonlinearly chirped fiber grating is form
ed when tension is applied to an etched fiber Bragg grating. whose cross-se
ctional area's reciprocal varies nonlinearly along the length of grating. T
he grating's chirp is tunable by the applied tension. (C) 2001 Elsevier Sci
