Abstract
We study the interface states formed in a heterostructure composed of two s emi-infinite two-dimensional photonic crystals with different filing fracti ons. Photonic band structure calculations by means of a supercell technique show that localized interface states are absent in this simple heterostruc ture; they can be created either by lateral lattice slipping or by increasi ng the interface separation.
