New glasses in the quaternary system AgI-Ag2O-TeO2 .B2O3 have been synthesi
sed by rapid quenching from glass melts. The ratio between B2O3 and TeO2 wa
s kept constant, B2O3:TeO2=1. Glasses were obtained with up to 50 mol% AgI.
Above this value, beta/gamma -AgI crystallised in the amorphous matrix. It
is seen from the infrared spectra that addition of Ag2O and AgI modify the
glass structure. The highest ionic conductivity is reached at 50 mol% AgI
(2x10(-4) S/cm) and the electron conductivity is below 10(-8) S/cm for all
the glasses.
