Aziridine and its dimer, N-(2-aminoethyl)aziridine, are perspective ligsons
for the template synthesis in nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes of a new
type of polyaza macromolecules by assembly reactions with formaldehyde in
the presence of nitroalkanes or ammonia. The first common stage in this pro
cess is the formaldehyde-initiated intraspherical conversion of N-(2-aminoe
thyl)aziridine to piperazine. Then a template synthesis of polyaza macromol
ecules takes place, in which N-(2-aminoethyl)aziridine or piperazine molecu
les are linked to each other by groups formed by condensation of formaldehy
de with nitroalkanes or ammonia. The resulting polyaza macromolecules can h
ave a chain (polymeric) or a cyclic structure.
