The [CoCl2(L-1*=L-1 *)CoCl2] . H2O complex (I) was synthesized by a reactio
n of CoCl2 with 1-(3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1-yl)-1-(quinolin-2-
yl)methane (L-1) and characterized using electronic absorption and IR spect
roscopies and X-ray crystallography. The structure of this compound contain
s a binuclear complex molecule (on axis 2) and a condensed tetradentate bri
dging L-1*=L-1* ligand with a tetrasubstituted ethylene group. The coordina
tion polyhedron of the Co atom is a distorted tetrahedron (Co-N, 2.059 and
2.075 Angstrom; Co-Cl, 2.222 and 2.230 Angstrom).
