The complexing of Cu2+ with N,N-di(2-carboxyethyl)anilines (R-C6H4-N(CH2CH2
COOH)(2) (R = n-Br, H, m-CH3, n-CH3, o-CH3, n-OCH3 n-OCH3) in aqueous solut
ion is studied hy electronic spectroscopy in the visible. The composition o
f the complexes is determined to be 1 : 1. Structures of the forming comple
xes are suggested in terms of the model involving the substitution of ligan
ds for Water molecules in [Cu(H2O)(6)](2+).
