Acid-base equilibria arising at the zirconium oxide/electrolyte interface w
ere studied experimentally using potentiometric titration and analysis of t
he dependence of the electrokinetic potential on the pH value in aqueous so
lutions of potassium chloride of various concentrations. The equilibrium co
nstants were calculated. It was found that the two methods give consistent
values of acid-base equilibrium constants:
pK(1)(0) = 4.0, pK(2)(0) = 9.2, pK(3)(0) = 6.2, and pK(0)(4) = 6.7.
