Abstract
Yieh United Steel Corporation has converted its existing continuous billet easter to a combined casting machine for billets and small slabs. The conve rted billet plant now features a resonance mould with an integrated mould s tirrer. The slab easter is fitted with a four-excentric oscillation. Strand distance for slabs is 1650 mm. The billets can be twin-cast on the slab st rand at a distance of 1100 mm. The casting speeds range between 0.8 and 1.2 m/min for slabs and between 1.1 and 2.2 m/min for billets. The design of t he plant enables set-up times comparable with those of modern single-purpos e machines. This was possible due to the low number of exchangeable parts a nd the equipment of the slab casting strand with quick-change strand guide segments, Besides the billets, the new highly flexible combicaster can now also produce slabs with a maximum width of 1300 mm which raises slab capaci ty up to approx. 150000 t/a.
