Abstract
The complex of [(t-C4H9C4H4)(2)Yb(THF)(2)][BPh4].THF (1) has been synt hesized by one-electron oxidation of (t-C4H9C5H4)(2)Yb(THF)(2) (2) wit h AgBPh4. 1 crystallized from THF-toluene in space group P2/n (#13) wi th unit cell constants: a = 12.362(9)Angstrom, b = 14.855(5)Angstrom, c = 14.093(6)Angstrom, beta = 109.20(4)degrees, V = 2444(2)Angstrom(3) and Z = 2 for D-calc = 1.292g cm(-3). Least squares refinement of the model based on 2257 observed reflections led to final R of 0.046. Thi s complex shows catalytic activity for the polymerization of styrene a t high temperature.
