Abstract
AUDIENCE This activity is designed for pharmacists, pharmacy directors, managed care organization medical directors and administrators, and payers for health s ervices. GOAL To describe clinical trials that have demonstrated a decreased number of em ergency department visits and hospitalizations in patients with asthma. OBJECTIVES 1. Discuss clinical trials that have demonstrated improved outcomes in pati ents with asthma. 2. Explain principles of optimal long-term asthma management to help ensure excellent outcomes. 3. Describe the role of the pharmacist in working with patients and other h ealthcare professionals so that optimal outcomes are achieved.
