Abstract
PURPOSE: To report a case of hypercupremia with deposits ln both eyes on th e Descemet's membrane, surface of the iris, and lens capsule associated wit h multiple myeloma. METHOD: Case report. RESULTS: A 64-year-old white woman had metallic deposits in both eyes on th e central Descemet's membrane, surface of the iris, and the anterior and po sterior lens capsule. A systemic examination revealed an elevated serum cop per, normal serum ceruloplasmin, and an increased level of total protein an d IgG kappa gammaglobulin. Based on these results, she was diagnosed with m ultiple myeloma. CONCLUSIONS: Copper deposits on the Descemet's membrane, surface of the iri s, and lens capsule may be the first sign of multiple myeloma. (Am J Ophtha lmol 2001;131: 257-259.
