Abstract
We have cloned the cDNA for Xenopus eukaryotic translation initiation facto r 4E (eIF4E), Here we show that translation of a luciferase mRNA that conta ins the 5' untranslated region derived from Xenopus erF4E is active in fert ilized eggs, but is repressed in oocytes. The results suggest that the expr ession of Xenopus eIF4E is regulated at the translation level.
