Abstract
We have found two isoforms of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) in Xenopus laevis. These proteins differ in length by 18 amino a cids. Overexpression of either of the two eIF4E proteins modestly increase translation in Xenopus oocytes. The results suggest that both of these two isoforms function in translation.
